How to set up a Cure GM1 Birthday Fundraiser on Facebook

Your birthday can help advance GM1 Gangliosidosis and help save children’s lives!

Note: Setting this up about one month before the birthday seems to be enough time to get donations and share a few times, but close enough to have some sense of urgency.

Go to Facebook.com

Clip on the top right drop down arrow.

In the drop down menu, select Create a Fundraiser

A popup will say “Create a Fundraiser” Press the blue button that says: Get Started

Next Popup will say “Who are you raising money for?” Select Nonprofit

Next Popup will have a place to type in the Nonprofits name, write “Cure GM1 Foundation”

Next Popup says “Let’s start with the basics”

Who are you raising money for? Keep “Cure GM1 Foundation”

How much money do you want to raise? Type in a goal (for example $1000)

When should your fundraiser end? Put the birthdate of the GM1 child or your birthday if     applicable. Then click NEXT

Next Popup says “Tell your story”

What’s the title of your fundraiser? Example “Eli’s birthday fundraiser for the Cure GM1 Foundation”

Why are you raising money? Example “Eli’s birthday is coming up and instead of asking for presents we are raising money for the Cure GM1 Foundation. Whether you can donate $5 or $500, every little bit helps. Thank you for your support! We’ve included information about the Cure GM1 Foundation below.

The Cure GM1 Foundation is dedicated to hope and to directly funding research for a cure for GM1 Gangliosidosis, a lysosomal storage disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord and is always fatal in children.  GM1 is a progressive and degenerative condition with an extremely broad and debilitating array of symptoms and complications.  This nonprofit organization was founded by parents of children who suffer from GM1 who seek to save the lives of all those who suffer from this wretched condition.” Then Click “Next”

Next Popup says “Pick a cover photo” Select a photo of the birthday child/adult

Then Publish or Finish it up.

 

After you have set it up:

Invite/share it with friends and family, then….

Post about it on Social Media (several times a week for the month leading up to the birthday)
